I Love a Parade is a non-profit organization employing women who are chronically homeless to create high-quality art from recycled costume materials donated by local theaters and parades.
The idea of providing the opportunity for people who are homeless to create art is not one that would occur to most people. It just doesn't jibe with our understanding - or misunderstanding - of people who are homeless. However, Sandra Haff, who has been working with people who are homeless for over 20 years - while taking every opportunity to develop her own art projects on the side - has observed that people who are chronically homeless tend, as a group to be more creative and artistic than the typical person.
